Picasa

Google owns a photomanager called Picasa.

It's basically an automated digital photo organizer suite, complete with instant photo albums, sharing and printing.

I was using Adobe Photoshop Album until now. You may remember that program from when they tried to force it upon you for downloading Acrobat Reader (much the same way Apple does with iTunes/Quicktime).

Photoshop Album is good, no doubts there, however Picasa is superior, and free.

Kids playing Doom III

I haven't played Doom III yet, so I can't say how scary or not it might be, but I highly doubt I'll be as freaked out as these two punks.

Afro Ninja

This is priceless. It is without a doubt the funniest thing I've seen all year! You have to watch it right now, and when you're done you have to watch it again. And again. It's an afro ninja doing a nunchakus training video.

This is why you should always check you pictures

Nice real estate site.

Jersey Girl Sucks

I've always liked Kevin Smith, despite the raging overuse of curse words in his movies. But Jersey Girl just sucked.

At first I thought it was just sub-par for one of his movies, (JASB notwithstanding), but after further consideration I've come to realize that the movie just plain stunk on its own merits.

For those reading this who disagree, think about this: if you didn't know Kevin Smith was directing it, would you have thought anything about it other than it was just another Affleck dud like Gigli, Changing Lanes, Pearl Harbor, Reindeer Games, Forces of Nature, etc?

How to make the perfect Totinos pizza

My bud's dad has discovered the secret to making the perfect frozen pizza, and I'm going to share it with you.

When you typically make them, you'll put them on a pizza pan and bake it. What's wrong with this approach? Your pizza is as soggy as Rosanne Arnold's thighs.

So then you think to get a crispier crust, you try making the next one without the pan. But the pizza burns on the bottom, and tastes like butt.

The secret? Put the frozen pizza on the top rack, and the pizza pan on the bottom rack. This shields the pizza from the direct heat from the burners so it doesn't get black on the bottom, while still giving you a nice, crispy crust.

It's awesome. Give it a try.

Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. Remove pizza from box and wrapper. Place pizza directly on center oven rack. Bake at 450 degrees F. for seven to nine minutes or until cheese in center is melted. TIP: To maintain a clean oven, place a sheet of foil or a cookie sheet on the lowest oven rack before turning on oven.

While out looking for a background for my favorite movie, Equilibrium, I came across this awesome site that has no less than three pages of them.

Advent Children

Advent Children

In case you hadn't heard, Square-Enix is maknig another movie, this one called Advent Children. It is a fully developed, CG-work sequel to the seminal 1997 PlayStation hit, Final Fantasy VII, which just so happens to be the greatest RPG of all time.

Two years after the events of FFVII, the ruins of Midgar stand as testament to the sacrifices that were made in order to bring peace. However, the world will soon face a new menace. A mysterious illness is spreading fast. Old enemies are astir. And Cloud, who walked away from the life of a hero to live in solitude, must step forward yet again...

I get goosebumps just thinking about this.

More information, including the trailer, can be found on the official website (currently only available in Japanese).

I kinda hate to do this, but goodbye GTray.

You were a good friend, and you helped me out in my time of need, but you're not as good (or as official) as Gmail Notifier, by Google.

It even gives you the preview of the new email recieved in your system tray, much like Outlook 2003 does.

Halo on the movie screen. Not what you think.

This article is about a tournament that used a real movie screen to project Halo onto.

I can only imagine.

My clan, Exodus, won the EB tournament that was held in St. Augustine, FL a few months ago, and we had a blast doing it. But I can only dream about how sweet it would be to play Halo on a movie theater screen.

The Passion Prompts Murderer To Confess

After all the warnings that Mel Gibson's movie The Passion of the Christ would cause violence and have a harmful effect on people's . . . well, morals, presumably, if it was going to cause violence . . . comes this amazing story of a murderer being driven to repentance and confessing his crime after seeing the film.

What this man did is horrendous, but the story shows the power of the story of God's Son, even via the medium of film, to touch the most hardened hearts.

Like to be annoying?

In this clever website, turn your mouse pointer into a sort of virtual fly in order to annoy the guy.

Hehehehe.

Letter home from a farm kid newly arrived at Marine Corps training camp

Dear Ma and Pa:

I am well. Hope you are. Tell my brothers the Marine Corps shore beats working for old man Minch. They oughta join up quick before all the spots git filled. I was nervous at first 'cause they all sleep in till 6 AM, but I'm now I kinda like sleeping late. All I do before breakfast is smooth my cot and shine some stuff; no hogs to slop, feed to pitch, mash to mix, wood to split, or fire to lay. Men gotta shave ever' day but it ain't so bad 'cause they have special faucets where water comes out already warmed! Breakfast is strong on the trimmin's like fruit juice, cereal, eggs, bacon, etc., but kinda weak on the chops, potatoes, ham, steak, fried eggplant, pie and other regular food. But tell brother Walt that I jes' sit by a couple o' city boys that live on coffee. So my food plus theirs'll hold ya till noontime when you they feed us again.

Our sergeant takes us on these marches which he says will harden us. Well, meybbe so, but we only go about as fer as to our mailbox. Then the city guys get sore feet and we all ride back in trucks.

This next'll kill brother Elmer: I don't know why, but they keep givin' me medals for shooting. Hell, their bulls-eye is near as big as a chipmunk head and don't even move, let alone shoot back like them Higgett boys! All you got to do is lay there all comfortable and squeeze the trigger. They even load my cartridges for me and put 'em in boxes. And then there's hand-to-hand combat where I get to wrestle with them city boys. But cha gotta be real careful though: them boys break easy! Shore ain't like fighting at home. I'm about the best they got.

Be sure you tell Walt and Elmer to hurry and join up before ever'body finds out about this sweet deal and comes a'stampedin' in!

Your loving daughter,

Sally Mae

Stripmail

I've been plowing through the hundreds of emails I received lately and realized something: not everyone knows about "StripMail." It's a tiny utility that removes all the ">>>" and extra line breaks, etc. that some email programs add. I've used it for years and wouldn't be without it. And it's free. So before you forward something to a friend that looks like it's been through the AOL wringer about 12 times, copy it, run StripMail, and THEN paste it into a new email. Your recepient will be glad you did!

Bad Cell Phone

Some guy went totally Office Space on his cell phone.

Kinda funny.

Spells & Whistles

I wanted to bring your attention to a great new webcomic I've happened upon, Spells & Whistles.

Unfortunately it's only updated about once a week, but it's got solid artwork, and here's the kicker, it's actually funny.

It seems like so many people out there say "I can draw, therefore I can make a webcomic." That's just plain wrong. The truth is that for most of us, being consistently funny is nigh impossible. Perfect example: White Hydra, the least funny strip I've ever seen.

It's almost like he's trying to suck.

SP2

For all you cave-dwellers out there, Windows XP Service Pack 2 is out.

The link goes to the version for IT Professionals and Developers, so your average Joe will want to wait until the Windows Update version is available, which will be much smaller than this 270+MB download.

I haven't begun deploying it on my network because I wanted to test it on my workstation before putting it out there to 200 users. But so far, I must say that I really like it.

Included in the upgrades are a built-in popup blocker for IE, and Windows now automatically firewalls every connection you have and even has settings to allow exceptions for individual programs, a la ZoneAlarm.

Cool.

Six Feet Under (the game, not the show)

Six Feet Under
This game is awesome.

It's very similar to Pingu, the first penguin/Yeti game where you see how far you can whack the penguin. In this game, the object is to throw the coffin as far as you can from your hearse.

Use left and right arrows to accelerate, and when you see the ground turn red use space bar to brake before you hit the brick wall.

That doesn't look like the batmobile

Don't get me wrong. I think the new Batman Begins movie is going to be good, one of the reasons being Christian Bale plays Batman and his performance in my current favorite movie of all time--Equilibrium--was incredible.

But as this video clearly shows, that doesn't look like the batmobile.

The rest of the cast is absolutley incredible:

Michael Caine, Liam Neeson, Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman, Katie Holmes, Rutger Hauer .... and, oh yeah, it's directed by the guy who did Memento.

Wow.

Creep Video

Hey, we all wish we were special, right? But we're all creeps. So, in that spirit you should check out this cool video for the song Creep by Radiohead. It's apparently based on characters from Low Morale, which I am not familiar with (he kinda looks like Dilbert on crack), but you don't need to be to enjoy the video. But if you're interested:

"Low Morale is a series of animations portraying one mans struggle to cope with the soul-sapping, will-to-live-draining, life-force mugging, morale crushing experiences of work."

I'm sure you can relate.

Spamusement!

I was very disappointed when one of my daily treats, Very Important Things, ended the series after only one year.

But that's ok.

I have now found a replacement in the form of Spamusement, a website that takes real subject lines from spam e-mails and turns them into a single-frame cartoon.

Go check them out, there are some really funny ones already.
