The Butterfly Effect

The Butterfly Effect looked promising, even though there was one major strike against it. That strike, of course, would be Ashton Kutcher. He has already sucked his way through a couple of other movies, like Just Married and Cheaper by the Dozen (and how could we forget Dude Where's My Acting Ability?). It seems that any movie Ashton Kutcher stars in automatically turns into mud; mud with corn in it that is.

However, my gut feeling felt that this film would be good, even though Ashton was there.

I saw two possible outcomes: either this film would be a complete masterpiece, or a complete disaster. This is Ashton’s first role where he tries to act serious. Jim Carey tried to be a serious actor, too, and the results were pretty good. The difference is that Jim Carey has talent, so to put him in the same boat as Ashton is in my mind a heresy.

I saw the director's cut originally, and I will tell you that it is a much different movie including the changes within that version of the film.

This movie was great. The acting jobs were top notch, including Ashton himself. The plot of the movie is quite old indeed, rapidly springing to mind is the episode of the Simpsons when Homer changes the past to find everything perfect (Marge is gorgeous, Bart is well behaved, etc) except nobody seems to know what a "doughnut" is so he flees just as it begins to rain. Except the rain is doughnuts instead of waterdrops. But this movie pulled of the idea quite well, and despite myself I'm actually looking forward to Ashton's next efforts.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go slash my wrists.
